There is little debate today that English is the world’s dialect. Without question, English is the global language. Billions of dollars change hands every day, every minute, with a single English word, “Yes.” A conversation between Canadian tourist shopping for souvenirs in a Cairo market and a Turkish vendor will most likely be in English, and culminates in a consummated transaction. A Filipino diplomat, in a bilateral meeting will negotiate with his Irish and Swedish counterparts in English before the agreement is signed. As globalization continues to pervade and invade our way of life and even our consciousness, so too does the English language.
